Horry County Weather Update for Thursday 1/8/2026

Greetings and welcome to the Horry County Weather Update for Thursday January 8, 2026.

Normal high:  mid to upper 50s
Normal low:  mid 30s inland, around 40 at the beaches

Keep that in mind as you read today’s blog post.

A weak cold front has dropped just south of the area early this morning.  This will lead to temperatures slightly cooler today than they were yesterday, both inland and at the beaches.  Otherwise the cloudiness and patchy fog this morning should dissipate by mid-morning, and we’ll see considerable sunshine for the remainder of the day.  Highs will range from the upper 60s to near 70 inland, but will be much cooler at the beaches… only in the lower 60s.

The front moves back north as a warm front late tonight.  An unseasonably warm and somewhat humid air mass moves into the area for Friday and Saturday, with breezy conditions developing Saturday afternoon.  Inland areas should be dry with a mix of sunshine and clouds, but areas from Surfside Beach to Myrtle/North Myrtle Beach, Nixons Crossroads, and Little River to Carolina Shores (Brunswick county) may experience more cloudiness and perhaps even a few spotty light rain showers.  Temps Friday and Saturday will range from the mid to the upper 70s inland, but “only” around 70 at the beaches.   If we get enough sunshine on Saturday, inland areas west of US-701 may see highs flirting with the 80-degree mark.

A strong but moisture-starved cold front moves through Saturday night, pushing offshore during the overnight hours.  A few spotty rain showers may accompany the front, but any rainfall should be light, amounting to no more than a few hundredths of an inch at most.  Sunday’s highs will likely occur in the morning hours as a secondary cold front pushes through around lunchtime.  Temps then fall during the afternoon, and really drop off after sunset.  Temps early Monday morning will be in the 30s… around 30 inland to mid 30s at the beaches.  Highs on Monday will only be around 50.  Dry weather with seasonable temps will continue into the middle of next week.

BEACH CONDITIONS:  Beach conditions will be relatively benign.  Chilly temps today (though still considerably above normal) will moderate somewhat going through the weekend.  A few light rain showers are possible along the beaches both Friday and Saturday.  Wave heights will be around 1 foot and the water temperature holds steady in the lower 50s.

Here’s your Horry County, N.C., forecast chart!  Thank you for reading and have a fantastic day!
